Hollywood superagent and investor Michael Ovitz praised Jeffrey Epstein and was invited to his island, files reveal

Recent documents have surfaced detailing the interactions between Michael Ovitz, co-founder of the influential Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The files indicate that Ovitz praised Epstein on multiple occasions and made arrangements to meet him in various locations, including Epstein's New York residence and his private Caribbean island. In 2012, Epstein extended an invitation to Ovitz to visit his island, stating in emails to a Microsoft executive and publicist Peggy Siegal that he was well-acquainted with the superagent. This relationship was further underscored by an email from Ovitz in 2013, where he referred to Epstein's 'outstanding multiple talents.' In response, Epstein expressed his pleasure in seeing Ovitz again, highlighting their cordial exchanges. However, a spokesperson for Ovitz has clarified that their relationship was strictly professional and limited. "Mr. Ovitz and Mr. Epstein did not know each other well, despite what Mr. Epstein communicated to others. Their interactions were minimal and polite," the spokesperson stated. Ovitz, who has represented high-profile stars like Tom Cruise and Robert De Niro, left CAA in 1995 to serve as Disney's president and has since established significant ties to the tech industry. He has invested in numerous startups and is an advisor to renowned venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. Additionally, he has recently focused on AI startups, including the Google-supported Promise and Black Forest Labs. The released documents from the Justice Department shed light on the communications between Ovitz and Epstein during the early to mid-2010s, a period following Epstein's 2008 guilty plea for soliciting prostitution from a minor but before his 2019 arrest on sex-trafficking charges. In one 2010 email, Ovitz remarked how long it had been since they last connected, suggesting they meet following a dinner with Jes Staley, the former CEO of Barclays, who also faced scrutiny over his connections to Epstein. Ovitz and Epstein continued to communicate sporadically, with Ovitz expressing interest in visiting Epstein’s Manhattan home and discussing potential meet-ups in St. Barts. As recent as 2017, Epstein referred to Ovitz as someone he knew well in an email, further complicating the narrative around their interactions. The emergence of these documents has ignited discussions about the implications for various influential figures connected to Epstein. In light of the revelations, several prominent individuals have reassessed their associations with Epstein. Notably, attorney Brad Karp resigned from his firm's chairmanship due to the distractions caused by his ties, while wellness influencer Peter Attia stepped down from his role as chief science officer at a protein bar company after admitting to inappropriate exchanges with Epstein. CAA remains a dominant force in Hollywood, notably influencing actor compensation and serving as a model for tech firms like Andreessen Horowitz, which aims to be 'CAA for the tech industry.' Moreover, Ovitz is currently launching a startup, SoundPatrol, which employs AI technology to combat copyright infringement in the music sector.
