Tesla enjoyed a positive week recently, surpassing analysts' expectations for car sales in the third quarter. However, the mood has shifted dramatically as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated yet another preliminary investigation into the automaker, marking the third such inquiry this year. Earlier this year, NHTSA launched an investigation into Tesla's remote parking capabilities following several crash incidents. More recently, a second probe was initiated due to multiple fatalities linked to the malfunctioning retractable door handles during accidents. Now, the focus has turned to the company's contentious 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) feature, which has drawn scrutiny after numerous reports of Teslas violating traffic regulations while utilizing this partially automated driving assist. The NHTSA has received at least 18 complaints regarding the FSD system, particularly related to the failure to recognize and respond to red traffic signals. Some of these incidents occurred during tests conducted by Business Insider, where vehicles either did not stop at red lights or began moving before the signal changed. Alarmingly, several drivers reported that the cars provided no warning in such situations, raising significant safety concerns about the reliability of Tesla's autonomous driving technology.
