Netflix is rolling out a live voting feature

Netflix has announced an exciting new feature that will enable viewers to engage with live content through voting. This interactive option will debut alongside the premiere of its live talent show, "Star Search," scheduled for January 20. Subscribers will have the ability to choose from a multiple-choice menu or rate performances using a five-star system. Voting can be conducted via a TV remote or through the Netflix mobile app, making it accessible for users worldwide. The platform will tally votes in real-time, adding a dynamic layer to the viewing experience. However, viewers will have a limited timeframe to cast their votes, meaning those who watch the show later will miss out on participating. The live voting feature was initially tested in August 2025 during the show "Dinner Time Live with David Chang." Elizabeth Stone, the Chief Technology Officer of Netflix, confirmed the upcoming rollout during the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 event, emphasizing the potential of this feature to enhance viewer interaction. "If you’re sitting at home watching 'Star Search,' you’ll be able to vote from your TV or mobile device, impacting the contestants' fate," Stone explained. Netflix has committed to expanding its live content offerings, with previous successes including "Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney" and various sports broadcasts like the NFL Christmas special and WWE events. Additionally, the company recently introduced interactive games for smart TVs, and now, with the integration of live voting, Netflix is taking a significant step toward creating a more immersive viewing experience.
