Netflix expands revamped mobile app across Asia and doubles down on kids’ gaming

Netflix is intensifying its focus on mobile and gaming, as highlighted during the company’s recent APAC Product Innovation Showcase. The streaming giant announced its plans to broaden the reach of its revamped mobile experience across various Asia-Pacific markets, alongside its ambitions to enhance gaming offerings, particularly for children. Following the successful rollout of the updated mobile app in countries like Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia earlier this year, Netflix is set to introduce this new experience in South Korea and Japan in July, with more Asia-Pacific locations to follow suit. A significant feature of this redesign is 'Clips,' which caters to the rising trend of short-form video content. This vertical video feed enables users to easily browse quick, entertaining segments from Netflix’s extensive library, perfect for those brief moments when a full episode or movie isn't feasible. Netflix is also taking further steps with the introduction of themed Clip collections. These curated sets will organize short videos based on specific moods, genres, and interests, potentially featuring everything from iconic reality TV moments to behind-the-scenes insights and podcast highlights. In addition to streaming enhancements, Netflix is making strides in the gaming sector. The company is expanding Netflix Playground, a dedicated gaming hub aimed at children, with a new focus on the popular animated musical 'KPop Demon Hunters.' This initiative will introduce six mini-games, allowing young fans to engage directly with beloved characters and story elements from the film. Given that 'KPop Demon Hunters' amassed over 518 million views within its first six months, Netflix appears poised to capitalize on this success while providing compelling reasons for families to remain engaged with its platform. The initial launch of Netflix Playground took place in April across the U.S., Canada, and the UK, marking the company's commitment to scaling this concept globally.
