Netflix to remove over 20 mobile games in July, including Hades and Monument Valley series

In a significant shift for its gaming platform, Netflix is set to remove 22 mobile titles from its subscription service. The first game to exit will be Hades, leaving the platform on July 2, followed closely by a wave of additional titles on July 15 in India. This decision comes as Netflix continues to refine its gaming library, which currently features over 120 ad-free mobile games available to subscribers on iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices. The announcement was first reported by What’s on Netflix, with confirmations appearing directly in the Netflix app, where the soon-to-be-removed games now show a 'Leaving Soon' notice. Among the notable games being taken down are: - Hades - The Monument Valley series - Carmen Sandiego - Braid: Anniversary Edition - Death’s Door - Lego Legacy: Heroes Unboxed - Raji: An Ancient Epic - Rainbow Six: Smol - Ludo King - SpongeBob: Bubble Pop F.U.N. - The Case of the Golden Idol - The Rise of the Golden Idol - Dumb Ways to Survive - Battleship - CoComelon: Play with JJ - Diner Out: Merge Cafe - Ghost Detective - Katana Zero - TED Tumblewords - Vineyard Valley In a statement provided to Variety, Netflix explained, "Just like with series and film, games will come and go from the service." Hades, a critically acclaimed roguelike from Supergiant Games, originally joined Netflix Games in March 2022, following its successful launch on multiple platforms starting in 2020. The early removal of Hades raises questions about potential licensing restrictions or changes in Netflix's gaming strategy. While the platform has attracted high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, its overall performance has been mixed. Reports indicate that the GTA trilogy exceeded 30 million downloads, yet performance metrics for many other titles remain ambiguous. Additionally, Netflix closed its in-house game studio, Blue, in October 2024, which had been working on a new original game that was ultimately canceled amid a broader evaluation of Netflix's gaming direction.
