In a surprising move, Netflix has quietly removed the ability for users to cast content directly from its mobile app to many modern televisions and streaming devices. This change, first highlighted by Android Authority, has left subscribers puzzled as the familiar "Cast" button has vanished from the app when attempting to stream to these newer devices. According to Netflix's updated support documentation, the company no longer supports casting from mobile devices to a wide range of TV-streaming devices and smart TVs. A representative mentioned that if a device comes with its own remote control, casting is typically unavailable. While Netflix asserts that this shift aims to improve the customer experience, many users affected by this change have voiced their discontent, arguing that the feature's removal is a significant inconvenience. Importantly, this restriction affects all subscription tiers, including both ad-supported and ad-free plans. However, users with older Chromecast models, which lack remote controls, and TVs with built-in Google Cast can still utilize the casting feature. Yet, even on these older devices, those on ad-supported plans face limitations with casting functionality. For users with devices like Chromecast with Google TV or most built-in Google TV smart TVs, navigating and playing Netflix content now requires reliance on the device's own remote. This feature reduction is currently being rolled out, and while some users still report having access to the casting option, it may soon disappear entirely.
