In a move to enhance its streaming offerings, Netflix is reportedly in negotiations to secure licensing rights for video podcasts produced by iHeartMedia, as revealed by Bloomberg. This potential partnership would include popular shows such as "The Breakfast Club," "Las Culturistas," "Jay Shetty Podcast," and "Stuff You Should Know." Netflix is seeking exclusivity in this arrangement, meaning that any video podcasts it licenses would not be available on YouTube. However, it's important to note that should the deal go through, iHeartMedia may choose not to grant Netflix access to its entire podcast library. This development follows closely on the heels of Netflix's recent agreement with Spotify, which will introduce a selection of curated podcasts focused on sports, culture, lifestyle, and true crime from Spotify Studios and The Ringer to the platform. Under the terms of the Spotify deal, while podcasts will be featured on Netflix, they will be removed from YouTube but will still be accessible on Spotify. Notably, certain high-profile shows from Spotify, like "The Joe Rogan Experience," will continue to be available on YouTube. These new video podcast initiatives are part of Netflix's strategy to strengthen its competitive stance against YouTube, which has emerged as the leading platform for video podcasts, boasting over 1 billion monthly active viewers earlier this year.
