AI is creating new jobs. Here are the roles to look out for and what they involve, according to 3 experts.

As we step into the realm of artificial intelligence, a wave of new job opportunities is emerging, designed specifically for the AI-centric era. Roles such as decision designer, digital ethics advisor, and AI experience officer are not just imaginative titles; they represent a significant shift in how businesses will operate moving forward. These innovative positions focus on fostering collaboration between humans and AI. According to Sabari Raja, managing partner at JFF Ventures, the key challenge for many organizations is determining how to best integrate human capabilities with AI technologies. "These new roles involve designing that collaboration — training teams for it, and determining where human judgment comes in," Raja explains. Successful candidates will possess a keen understanding of human cognitive processes, including decision-making under pressure, while also being well-versed in the nuances of AI systems. In recent years, the approach to AI adoption has often involved simply enhancing existing roles or repackaging technical positions. However, Marinela Profi, global AI market strategy lead at SAS, notes a critical shift: companies are moving towards creating roles that inherently embrace an AI-first mindset. "We've moved beyond retrofitting AI into existing roles. Now we're seeing signs of companies building them for a native AI era," she states. Governance is becoming increasingly important as organizations rely on AI for significant decisions, such as fraud detection or loan approvals. This is where the role of an AI decision designer comes into play. These professionals will be responsible for shaping AI decision-making frameworks and ensuring accountability as automation becomes more prevalent. Profi emphasizes the importance of keeping humans at the center of these processes, stating, "This role would be a way to keep the human in the loop." Furthermore, as companies strive to align AI technologies with their core values, the emergence of C-suite positions dedicated to AI strategy is likely. The AI experience officer, for example, will focus on the human aspects of AI interaction, ensuring that the technology feels trustworthy and empathetic, particularly in sensitive industries like healthcare and education. The need for ethical considerations in AI is also prompting the creation of roles such as digital ethics advisor. These individuals will play a crucial role in building safety systems for AI technologies, establishing checkpoints to mitigate risks associated with AI deployment. Shahab Samimi, CEO of Humanoid Global, highlights the complexity of ensuring ethical AI practices, stating that the absence of a governing body for AI safety standards makes these roles all the more vital. While these positions are emerging in response to the evolving technological landscape, experts warn that the integration of AI into workplaces signifies more than just job changes. Raja notes, "Many companies think of AI adoption as an IT project, but it's a workforce transformation. Most don't yet realize the scale of what's coming and the changes we'll see to workflows, skill sets, and management structures. It's a complete reconfiguration."
