Amazon Fire TV’s new AI feature lets you jump to scenes by describing them to Alexa+

Amazon has unveiled an exciting new feature for Fire TV users that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the viewing experience on Prime Video. Announced on Wednesday, this innovative tool allows viewers to jump directly to specific scenes by simply describing them to Alexa+. The company emphasized its commitment to helping users quickly find what they want to watch. "Our number one mission at Fire TV is getting you to what you want to watch—fast," Amazon stated in a recent blog post. With this new AI feature, viewers can bypass tedious searches and instead describe a scene as they would to a friend. Users can provide details such as the names of actors or characters, or even memorable quotes to guide Alexa+. For instance, a viewer could say, "Jump to the scene in Mamma Mia where Sophie sings 'Honey Honey' in Love Actually" or request, "Jump to the moment when Deloris Jordan says 'a shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it.'" Alexa+ can recognize the movie even without the title being mentioned, using advanced visual understanding and movie captions to pinpoint the exact moment viewers are seeking. The feature is built on Amazon Bedrock, a platform that provides access to various generative AI models from both Amazon and third-party developers via an API. This cutting-edge feature utilizes multiple large language models, including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude, and it supports a vast library of movie titles on Prime Video, encompassing tens of thousands of indexed scenes. Amazon has also indicated plans to expand this functionality to include more movies and TV shows soon. However, it’s important to note that the feature is available only for movies included with a Prime membership or those that have been purchased or rented through Prime Video.
