The Artemis II mission sends back stunning images of the far side of the Moon

NASA’s Artemis II mission has successfully completed a remarkable flyby of the Moon, showcasing breathtaking views from space. On Monday, the mission carried four astronauts on an extraordinary journey, during which they described the stunning lunar landscape and captured images of Earth rising majestically behind the Moon while communicating with Mission Control in Houston. Due to previous limitations in communication bandwidth, the crew was unable to send high-resolution images back to Earth in real-time. However, on Monday night, the Orion spacecraft established an optical link with ground stations, allowing for the transmission of these extraordinary images. NASA has been diligently uploading these stunning visuals to the Johnson Space Center’s Flickr page, revealing awe-inspiring snapshots of the Moon and Earth. During their flyby, the astronauts experienced remarkable celestial events, including both a rising and setting Earth, as well as a solar eclipse. The moment of totality during the eclipse was particularly striking. Inside the Integrity spacecraft, the crew members—Mission Specialist Christina Koch, Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, Commander Reid Wiseman, and Pilot Victor Glover—had to don special shades for protection during the initial phases of the eclipse.
