Elon Musk and Sam Altman are feuding again

The ongoing feud between Elon Musk and Sam Altman has reignited, with both tech titans exchanging heated accusations on social media. The latest round of their rivalry began when Musk criticized Apple for allegedly giving preferential treatment to OpenAI's ChatGPT in App Store rankings. He claimed this constitutes a clear antitrust violation, stating that Apple is making it nearly impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to achieve the top spot. In response, Altman turned the tables on Musk, pointing out the potential for similar manipulative practices on Musk's own platform, X. He referenced allegations that Musk has altered the X algorithm to favor his own posts and diminish visibility for competitors. Altman emphasized the need for transparency, suggesting that a legal inquiry could shed light on these manipulations. The exchange took a personal turn when Musk challenged Altman’s follower engagement, questioning the authenticity of views on Altman's posts as he boasted about his own follower count. In a testy reply, Altman called for Musk to sign an affidavit denying any wrongdoing with the X algorithm, further fueling the tension between the two. This conflict is just the latest chapter in their long-standing rivalry that dates back to their days at OpenAI, which they co-founded in 2015. Musk has frequently criticized Altman and OpenAI since exiting its board in 2018, and their relationship soured further following Musk’s legal actions against OpenAI over its partnership with Microsoft. Despite Musk's continued attacks, Altman appeared to downplay the situation in a recent interview, stating that he does not think about Musk often. He also noted that he would rather focus on advancing AI technology than engage in Musk's provocations. Meanwhile, Musk continues to assert the superiority of his own AI ventures, indicating that the competition between these two innovators is far from over.
