An investigation by The New Yorker, which highlights concerns regarding Sam Altman's leadership, has resurfaced on social media thanks to Elon Musk's endorsement. The article, penned by investigative journalist Ronan Farrow, discusses whether Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, can be trusted with significant power. It re-emerged on the platform X on Monday, just as a high-profile legal showdown between Musk and Altman commenced in Oakland, California. The post linking to Farrow's profile, titled "Sam Altman May Control Our Future—Can He Be Trusted?", was marked as "Boosted" and noted that it was shared by Musk himself. While the exact reach of the post is uncertain, several reporters from Business Insider reported seeing it in their feeds. This resurgence comes as jury selection for Musk's lawsuit against Altman and OpenAI began. Musk claims he was misled when he co-founded the organization in 2015 and invested millions, only for it to stray from its original mission as a nonprofit. This legal dispute has the potential to cost OpenAI billions, especially as the company gears up for a public offering. On the same day, Musk took to X to voice his criticism, stating, "Scam Altman and Greg Stockman stole a charity. Full stop," referring to Altman and OpenAI's president, who is also implicated in the lawsuit. OpenAI responded by labeling the suit as "a baseless and jealous bid to derail a competitor." Questions remain unanswered regarding the nature of the "boosted" post feature on X, particularly how it differs from traditional advertising. The New Yorker has opted not to comment on the situation.
