Recently, Blue Origin's Endurance was transported from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston via barge to Cape Canaveral, Florida, where it will undergo final preparations for launch aboard the company's powerful New Glenn rocket. Before this, the lander successfully completed rigorous testing in Houston to ensure it can withstand the harsh temperatures of the Moon's airless environment. On the other side of the world, China's Chang’e 7 has reached a spaceport on Hainan Island in the South China Sea, where it will be integrated with the Long March 5 rocket, China's heavy-lift launcher. Both missions are tentatively scheduled for liftoff later this year, potentially in late summer. However, it remains uncertain which mission—Chang’e 7 or Blue Origin's Endurance—will reach Shackleton Crater first. What adds an intriguing layer to this competition is the possibility of both missions operating in close proximity on what could be a highly coveted area on the lunar surface.
