Momenta, a leading Chinese startup specializing in driverless technology, is in the process of securing a new funding round that could elevate its valuation to approximately $6 billion, according to sources familiar with the situation. The valuation is subject to change as the funding negotiations unfold. Initial reports by Bloomberg indicated that the company was seeking a valuation exceeding $5 billion. Headquartered in Beijing, Momenta focuses on developing software and algorithms designed to enhance automated driving features for vehicles. The firm boasts that its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) enable cars to perform certain tasks autonomously, such as lane changes. Recently, Momenta entered into a significant partnership with Mercedes-Benz, aiming to integrate its technology into the German automaker's upcoming electric CLA model in China. This collaboration will allow Mercedes-Benz's driver assistance systems to operate effectively across various driving environments, including highways, city streets, and parking facilities, as outlined in a joint press release by both companies. According to insiders, Momenta's technology is set to be featured in 40 different models manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. Earlier this year, BMW also announced a partnership with Momenta to incorporate its technology into the Neue Klasse electric vehicles in China. The company's investor roster includes notable names such as Tencent, Temasek, SAIC Motor, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz, positioning it in a competitive landscape alongside other key players like Nvidia and Horizon Robotics in China. Additionally, Momenta is also preparing for an initial public offering and is reportedly considering moving its listing from New York to Hong Kong.
