Mobileye Global, a leading provider of self-driving technology, announced its plan to launch a robotaxi service in the United States by 2027. The company aims to introduce an initial fleet of 100 autonomous vehicles in a major city, with a phased rollout beginning next year. Following this initial launch, Mobileye intends to expand its fleet significantly, targeting a total of approximately 17,000 vehicles over the next five years. This strategic move has already positively impacted the company's stock, with shares rising nearly 6% post-announcement. CEO Amnon Shashua expressed confidence in this venture, stating, "We believe there is an opportunity for a new approach — one built on deep autonomous-driving expertise, strong industry partnerships, and proven capabilities across the mobility ecosystem." Notably, this new service will place Mobileye in competition with some of the automotive manufacturers that currently utilize its Mobileye Drive technology. Despite this competitive shift, Mobileye reassured its partners that its commitment to supplying technology to customers remains unchanged. The company views this foray into the robotaxi market as a "complementary path to market," emphasizing that it will showcase the capabilities of the Mobileye Drive platform on a larger scale.
