Mistral AI, a French startup specializing in artificial intelligence, is reportedly in the final stages of securing a €2 billion investment, which would elevate its valuation to an impressive $14 billion, according to Bloomberg. This development positions Mistral as one of the most valuable technology startups in Europe. Founded just two years ago by former researchers from DeepMind and Meta, Mistral AI is known for its innovative open-source language models and its AI chatbot, Le Chat, tailored specifically for European users. Although the company has not confirmed the details of this investment round, it would mark Mistral's first significant funding boost since June 2024, when it was valued at €5.8 billion. Mistral has previously attracted over €1 billion from notable investors like Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst, showcasing strong investor confidence. This latest funding surge comes as European AI startups are experiencing a rapid increase in investment, with a reported 55% year-on-year growth in Q1 2025, according to Dealroom. Notably, 12 startups in the region achieved unicorn status in just the first half of the year. Among them is Sweden’s Lovable, an AI coding platform that reached a valuation of $1.8 billion merely eight months after its inception.
