Internal documents and sources cited by Business Insider reveal that Microsoft has compiled a list of preferred candidates from Meta, identifying key personnel within teams such as Reality Labs, GenAI Infrastructure, and Meta AI Research. This targeted recruitment initiative is bolstered by a newly implemented fast-track hiring process, which allows recruiters to swiftly identify 'critical AI talent.' Senior executives are then poised to respond with competitive offers within a 24-hour timeframe. The escalating competition for AI expertise is evident, as Meta has been known to offer pay packages up to $250 million for select researchers. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has disclosed that his company has offered signing bonuses as high as $100 million to attract top engineers. In response, Microsoft is prepared to match or exceed these lucrative offers, even pushing beyond its typical salary structures. Documents reviewed by Business Insider indicate that Microsoft’s elite compensation packages may encompass salaries that surpass $400,000, along with stock awards nearing $2 million, annual stock grants of approximately $1.5 million, and cash bonuses up to 90%. In highly competitive scenarios involving exceptional AI talent, even more considerable financial incentives are on the table. The recruitment campaign is spearheaded by two prominent divisions within Microsoft: Microsoft AI, led by Mustafa Suleyman, a former co-founder of Google DeepMind, and CoreAI, managed by Jay Parikh, the former head of engineering at Meta. Both divisions are equipped with dedicated recruiters and compensation specialists focused on securing high-caliber hires. This aggressive talent acquisition strategy emerges in the wake of significant organizational changes at Microsoft, which included approximately 9,000 global layoffs.
