Microsoft plans Linux tools and an RTX Spark desktop for Windows developers

The Build developer conference organized by Microsoft has commenced, showcasing a significant focus on artificial intelligence and associated technologies during the opening keynote. Among the notable announcements is Microsoft Scout, an OpenClaw-based 'Autopilot' agent designed to integrate with Microsoft 365 data, enabling it to automate tasks for users. Additionally, several new AI models were introduced, alongside an expanded preview of 'Codename MDASH,' a multi-model agentic scanning system aimed at identifying and rectifying software vulnerabilities. While the advancements in generative AI tools were highlighted, there was little discussion about recent improvements to the Windows operating system itself, despite ongoing efforts to enhance its speed, reliability, and user experience. On the hardware side, Microsoft introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a compact developer PC powered by Nvidia’s new RTX Spark chip and equipped with up to 128GB of RAM. The design of this Dev Box resembles a flattened Xbox Series X, intended to function as both a computer and a heatsink. It comes preloaded with Windows 11 Pro, featuring a tailored set of developer-centric default settings and pre-installed tools. This new device follows the Windows Dev Kit 2023, also known as 'Project Volterra,' which was a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3-powered system that showcased the integration of Microsoft developer tools with Arm-native capabilities. The introduction of the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box aims to build on the foundation established by its predecessor, facilitating the development of future Arm-based Surface devices and improving the overall developer experience.
