Microsoft shakes up Copilot AI leadership team, freeing up Suleyman

In a strategic overhaul announced on Tuesday, Microsoft has unified its engineering teams for both consumer and commercial Copilot assistants, which have yet to achieve significant market penetration. Jacob Andreou, previously a senior executive at Snap, is set to take on the role of executive vice president, overseeing the integration of the consumer and commercial Copilot experiences. This transition was shared by CEO Satya Nadella in a memo aimed at the company's employees. Andreou will report directly to Nadella, who also outlined that other key figures, including Ryan Roslansky, Perry Clarke, and Charles Lamanna, will manage Microsoft 365 applications and the broader Copilot platform, also under Nadella's guidance. This restructuring is expected to allow Mustafa Suleyman, a co-founder of AI research lab DeepMind acquired by Google in 2014, to concentrate on developing new AI models. Since joining Microsoft through the Inflection acquisition in 2024, Suleyman has primarily focused on consumer-facing Copilot initiatives. In his memo, Nadella emphasized the company's commitment to advancing its superintelligence objectives, highlighting the importance of harnessing talent and computational resources to create impactful models. The goal is to improve evaluation metrics, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of enterprise solutions while achieving significant research milestones.
