Microsoft announces glut of new data centers but says it won’t let your electricity bill go up

Microsoft's recent decisions reflect this climate; in October, it scrapped plans for a data center in Caledonia, Wisconsin, due to overwhelming community disapproval. Protests have also emerged in Michigan regarding similar projects. As Microsoft announced its 'good neighbor' initiative, it faced criticism from local media, with one op-ed in Ohio linking the tech giant's actions to climate change concerns. The situation has even caught the attention of the White House, where the issue of AI infrastructure development is a significant topic. Recently, President Trump assured the public that Microsoft would implement measures to prevent spikes in electricity costs for consumers, promising that Americans would not bear the financial burden of increased power consumption. Microsoft is clearly aware of the prevailing negative sentiment surrounding its data center expansions.
