Microsoft unveils tool to help companies control, track AI agents

Microsoft is taking a significant step in empowering businesses to manage their AI agents with the launch of its innovative tool, Agent 365. This new software allows IT professionals to monitor and control various AI agents operating within their corporate systems, including those developed by third-party companies. Set to be showcased during Microsoft's Ignite conference in San Francisco, Agent 365 presents a comprehensive overview of all AI agents integrated into a company's infrastructure. According to Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft's commercial business, provisioning identity and access controls for AI agents will be as straightforward as managing those for new employees. With Agent 365, administrators gain the ability to approve new agents, track their popularity, and assess the amount of time saved by employees through automation. The tool also enhances security measures, enabling users to identify potential risks and restrict agent activities if necessary. End users will benefit from insights into the performance and actions of these AI agents. The rise of AI capabilities, particularly following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, has led to a surge in software companies creating AI agents that can handle tasks ranging from software development to advertising. Major corporations are beginning to adopt these technologies, with Agent 365 set to feature agents from well-known companies like Adobe, Cognition, Databricks, Glean, ServiceNow, and Workday. Additionally, agents crafted using Microsoft's Azure AI Foundry and Copilot Studio will also be integrated into the platform. Microsoft is open to collaborations, allowing other companies that offer AI agents to connect with Agent 365. For instance, EY, a global leader in accounting, is transitioning from its internal catalog of AI agents to Agent 365 for better oversight. Furthermore, cybersecurity firms are acknowledging the challenges posed by the increasing number of agents and are developing tools to help track and manage them. Customers involved in Microsoft's Frontier program can request early access to Agent 365, although pricing details are yet to be announced. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the integration of AI into the workplace, addressing both the opportunities and challenges that come with it.
