In response to user feedback regarding Windows 11, Microsoft is taking significant steps to enhance the overall user experience. The tech giant has been vocal about its commitment to continuous improvement, and one of the key initiatives is the introduction of a feature known as the "low latency profile." This innovative approach aims to boost the performance of essential Windows components, such as the Start menu and File Explorer. By implementing the low latency profile, Microsoft plans to deliver an extra surge of CPU power when users open the Start menu or various applications, thereby enhancing speed and responsiveness. Testing conducted by Windows Central on the low latency profile in beta versions of Windows 11 revealed a marked improvement in performance compared to the previously available public version, Windows 11 25H2. While some users have expressed concerns on social media regarding potential increases in power consumption and battery drain, Microsoft has reassured users that this feature works in conjunction with other software optimizations. Scott Hanselman, VP at Microsoft and GitHub, addressed these concerns by emphasizing that the low latency profile is a standard practice among modern operating systems, including macOS and Linux. He clarified, "It’s not ‘cheating’; this is how modern systems make apps feel fast: they temporarily boost the CPU speed and prioritize interactive tasks to reduce latency." Interestingly, allowing CPUs or GPUs to utilize more power in brief bursts can actually lead to energy savings compared to maintaining a lower power level over an extended period. This phenomenon, known as the "race to sleep," is a design feature of contemporary processors that improves system responsiveness while also conserving power effectively.
