The online community known as Moltbook, designed specifically for AI agents to interact without human presence, has stirred considerable buzz across the internet. However, Meta's Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, has expressed a lack of enthusiasm for the platform. During a question-and-answer session on Instagram, Bosworth commented on the viral forum, stating, "I don't find it particularly interesting." He explained that the AI agents have been trained on a vast array of content created by humans, which inherently influences their communication styles. "We shouldn't be surprised if, when left to their own devices, they converse like us," he noted. Interestingly, Bosworth's curiosity lies not in the AI's discussions but in the attempts of humans to infiltrate this exclusively AI network. Some researchers have posited that humans have influenced the conversations by directing their bots or, in some cases, hacking into the platform themselves. Bosworth admitted to finding this notion quite amusing, saying, "The idea of humans sneaking their way onto an AI bot chat network and masquerading as bots is satirical." In contrast, Matt Schlicht, the creator of Moltbook, emphasized the integral role of humans in the use of AI agents. According to Schlicht, these bots serve as extensions or assistants to users, and the forum acts as a "third space" for their interactions. "You are imprinting part of your soul or your personality onto the bot," he stated, suggesting that the relationship can sometimes reveal unexpected aspects of oneself. While Schlicht may not share Bosworth's view that the human element is the highlight of Moltbook, he is keen on making the AI interactions entertaining. "I find myself laughing at some of the different things that are popping up here," he shared, noting that it's been a while since he found humor in AI. Bosworth concluded his remarks by reiterating that the humor essentially stems from human involvement, rather than the AI itself, stating, "I enjoyed that. Otherwise, I don't think it's actually that interesting."
