Meta AI glasses launch marred by multiple demo failures with Zuckerberg on-stage

During the much-anticipated Meta Connect event, tech powerhouse Meta unveiled its latest innovations: the Meta Ray-Ban glasses featuring a built-in display and the performance-driven Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses. However, the showcase took an awkward turn as multiple live demonstration failures unfolded, leaving CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an uncomfortable position. The event's highlight was meant to be a demonstration featuring food creator Jack Mancuso, who utilized the new Meta Ray-Ban glasses to request a recipe for a Korean-inspired steak sauce. Unfortunately, the AI integrated into Mancuso's glasses malfunctioned, offering jumbled instructions instead of a coherent recipe. Despite Mancuso’s attempts to redirect the AI, he ultimately attributed the confusion to a “messed up Wi-Fi” and returned the focus to Zuckerberg. In a moment of reflection, Zuckerberg quipped about the irony of years of technological development being undermined by a Wi-Fi issue on the day of the launch. The mishaps didn’t end there; another demonstration faltered when Zuckerberg attempted to showcase the neural wristband that pairs with the Ray-Ban glasses. This wristband is designed to recognize subtle hand gestures for actions like messaging and media control. While showing off the glasses' functionalities, Zuckerberg successfully sent a message to Meta's CTO Andrew Bosworth using the wristband. However, a subsequent call from Bosworth was met with another technical hiccup, as the glasses failed to respond to Zuckerberg’s gestures. After several unsuccessful attempts to connect, Bosworth made his way onto the stage to assist, with both men reiterating that the issues stemmed from a poor Wi-Fi connection. These incidents highlighted the challenges that come with launching cutting-edge technology, even for a company like Meta, which has invested heavily in augmented reality advancements.
