Zuckerberg teases agentic commerce tools and major AI rollout in 2026

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Meta users can expect new artificial intelligence models and products in the coming months. During an investor call on Wednesday, he revealed, "In 2025, we rebuilt the foundations of our AI program," referring to the company’s restructured AI lab. He expressed optimism about the upcoming release of new models and products, stating, "I expect us to steadily push the frontier over the course of the new year." Zuckerberg emphasized that AI-driven commerce would be a key focus for Meta, hinting at the introduction of innovative shopping tools. "This also has implications for commerce," he noted, highlighting how the new agentic shopping tools will help users discover the right products from the businesses featured in Meta's catalog. This initiative reflects a growing trend in the industry toward AI-powered shopping assistants, with competitors like Google and OpenAI also developing similar capabilities. While other AI labs have established significant technical frameworks, Meta believes its unique access to personal user data will provide it with a competitive edge. "We’re starting to see the promise of AI that understands our personal context, including our history, our interests, our content, and our relationships," Zuckerberg explained. He added that the value of AI agents lies in their ability to leverage this unique context, suggesting that Meta can offer an exceptionally personalized experience. In December, Meta expanded its capabilities by acquiring Manus, a developer of general-purpose agent technology. The company announced that it would continue to operate the Manus service while integrating its technology into Meta's own products. The investor call coincided with the release of Meta’s latest quarterly earnings, which revealed a substantial increase in capital expenditures. The company now projects spending between $115 billion and $135 billion on infrastructure throughout 2026, a rise from $72 billion in 2025. Meta attributed this increase to heightened investments in its Meta Superintelligence Labs and core business activities. Despite these ambitious plans, the projected spending still falls short of the $600 billion estimate that Zuckerberg previously suggested for Meta's infrastructure investments through 2028. Investors have previously voiced concerns regarding the clarity of Meta's AI investment strategy and its potential impact on financial results. However, Zuckerberg assured investors that significant AI developments would soon be accessible to the public, stating, "This is going to be a big year for delivering personal superintelligence, accelerating our business, building infrastructure for the future, and shaping how our company will work going forward."
