Meta's relentless pursuit of top-tier AI talent shows no signs of slowing down. Recent reports indicate that the tech giant sought to acquire Safe Superintelligence, a groundbreaking AI startup valued at $32 billion and co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, who previously served as OpenAI’s chief scientist. Despite Meta's interest, Sutskever declined the offer. However, the company is now reportedly in discussions to bring on board Daniel Gross, the co-founder and CEO of Safe Superintelligence. Additionally, it's been highlighted that Meta is also considering hiring Nat Friedman, the former CEO of GitHub. This potential recruitment aligns with Meta's strategy to enhance its AI capabilities. The company is looking to invest in Gross and Friedman’s collaborative venture, NFDG, which has already made significant investments in prominent AI firms like Perplexity and Character.AI. By bringing in these leaders, Meta aims to strengthen its AI superintelligence lab, leveraging their extensive experience in running and funding AI research initiatives. Earlier this month, in a further display of its commitment to AI, Meta announced the addition of Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, along with several executives from the data labeling startup, to its ranks.
