Meta is making significant strides in its subscription services by launching new plans for its major platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The social media powerhouse announced on Wednesday that it is rolling out these consumer subscription options globally, alongside beta tests for business and creator subscriptions, as well as plans tailored for Meta AI users. For a monthly fee, users can opt for Instagram Plus at $3.99, Facebook Plus at $3.99, or WhatsApp Plus at $2.99. These subscriptions promise a suite of enhanced features, including advanced profile customization, unique reactions, and detailed story insights. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, indicated that users can expect more exciting features to be introduced in the near future. In addition to consumer offerings, Meta is initiating trials for more specialized plans branded as “Meta One.” This initiative aims to cater to creators and businesses, as well as to introduce AI-centric options. The plans are crafted to enhance user engagement and help Meta diversify its revenue beyond traditional advertising channels, especially as growth opportunities in its core apps plateau. Each subscription plan is uniquely tailored to its respective platform. For instance, Instagram Plus focuses on social interaction features, while WhatsApp Plus emphasizes personalization and messaging enhancements. Despite the introduction of these new plans, Meta assures that its existing verification service, Meta Verified, will continue to operate alongside the new offerings. Subscribers to Instagram Plus will enjoy features such as the ability to track how many people have rewatched their stories, unlimited audience lists for stories, and the option to spotlight a story weekly for increased visibility. Furthermore, users can post to their profile without alerting their followers, among other perks like custom app icons and animated reactions. On the other hand, WhatsApp Plus provides features like customizable themes, premium stickers, and enhanced chat organization tools. Meta is also preparing to launch two subscription options for its AI users: Meta One Plus at $7.99 and Meta One Premium at $19.99. While both plans will offer similar features, the Premium version will provide increased processing capabilities for more demanding tasks, as well as enhanced media generation across Meta’s platforms. Casual users will still have access to Meta AI for free, while these new plans align with similar offerings from other AI service providers. The AI subscription tests are set to commence next month in select regions, including Singapore and Guatemala. Additionally, trials for creator and business-focused plans will begin soon in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Morocco. The Meta One Essential plan will include a Verified badge and impersonation protection, while the more comprehensive Meta One Advanced plan will offer additional visibility and promotional tools designed to help creators and businesses connect with their audience more effectively. Gleit noted that these plans are still in the experimental phase but will evolve under the Meta One umbrella, with ongoing updates to enhance user experiences.
