During its recent Connect developer conference, Meta showcased significant updates to its metaverse platform, focusing on the innovative tool known as Hyperscape. This feature empowers users to create immersive digital replicas of their real-world environments. The company announced that Hyperscape Capture is now available in Early Access for the Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices. With Hyperscape Capture, users can scan their surroundings in just a few minutes, enabling them to later explore a photorealistic virtual version of their space. However, while the scanning process is swift, rendering the scanned environment may take several hours. Notable virtual environments have already been created, including Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen in Los Angeles, Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks, the UFC Apex’s Octagon in Las Vegas, and influencer Happy Kelli’s room filled with Crocs. Initially, users will not have the option to invite others into their virtual spaces, but Meta plans to implement this feature later through private links. Access to Hyperscape will be restricted to users aged 18 and older, and the rollout will be gradual, meaning not all Quest owners will have immediate access to the feature. In addition to Hyperscape, Meta also revealed a new lineup of VR games set to launch this fall, featuring exciting titles like Marvel’s Deadpool VR, ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and Reach. On the entertainment front, Horizon TV is set to incorporate support for popular streaming services such as Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu. Furthermore, a partnership with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse will introduce immersive effects to horror films, including M3GAN and The Black Phone. Fans can also look forward to a limited-time 3D clip from Avatar: Fire and Ash.
