Meta turns to AI to make shopping easier on Instagram and Facebook

Meta is set to enhance the shopping experience on its platforms, Facebook and Instagram, by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. During the Shoptalk 2026 conference, the company revealed plans to introduce a new feature that allows users to access detailed product information and user review summaries when they engage with advertisements or visit external websites through its apps. This innovative approach mirrors Amazon's recent implementation of generative AI to streamline product reviews. Instead of sifting through numerous user comments, Amazon employs AI to condense reviews into concise summaries, which will now be reflected in Meta's offerings as well. Users can expect to see a new pop-up that curates feedback on products, providing a brief introduction along with key insights. In addition to user reviews, Meta's new feature aims to deliver a wealth of information, including brand details, recommended products, and potential discounts. An intuitive 'Add to Cart' button will facilitate a seamless shopping experience. This streamlined checkout process is being developed in collaboration with payment partners like Stripe and PayPal, allowing users to finalize their purchases with just a tap. Meta is also planning to integrate with Ayden and Shopify in the near future, giving advertisers the flexibility to choose their preferred checkout partners. This means that when consumers click the 'Buy Now' button, they can complete their transactions without leaving Meta's ecosystem. Alongside these updates, Meta is enhancing its product discovery tools, particularly for content creators. As competition with platforms like TikTok intensifies, the company is expanding its affiliate partnerships to include major players like Amazon, eBay, and Temu in the U.S., as well as Mercado Libre in Latin America and Shopee in Asia. Additionally, Instagram will begin testing affiliate features later this year, empowering creators with access to product catalogs from businesses across 22 countries, enabling them to showcase products in their Reels.
