Meta’s Edits app is getting an AI assistant and a desktop version

In an exclusive creator event in Los Angeles, Meta showcased exciting enhancements to its Edits video-editing application. The spotlight was on a forthcoming AI assistant and a new desktop version, marking a significant evolution for the app that initially launched as a mobile-only platform. The latest updates, including a 'Beta' tab for testing features and improved audience insights, are designed to elevate the user experience and attract a broader creator base. The AI assistant is set to empower creators by analyzing their performance metrics and generating content ideas tailored to their audience engagement. By leveraging Instagram data, the assistant will offer suggestions based on video performance and trending audio, ensuring creators remain competitive in a landscape dominated by TikTok and YouTube. This integration aims to keep creators engaged on Instagram, encouraging more frequent content sharing and enhancing user interaction on the platform. The AI assistant's functionality reduces reliance on external tools like ChatGPT, streamlining the brainstorming process for creators. This move follows the recent launch of a similar AI tool for Facebook creators, emphasizing Meta's commitment to supporting its community. Additionally, the desktop version of Edits promises enhanced control for creators, facilitating more sophisticated editing tasks on larger screens. Users can look forward to seamless synchronization between mobile and desktop environments, a crucial feature as Meta seeks to challenge CapCut's dominance, which already offers a desktop option. Among the new features rolling out is the Beta tab, allowing creators to experiment with pre-release tools and provide valuable feedback to Meta. This initiative reflects the company's intent to adapt its offerings based on creator input, further fostering innovation. Creators will gain access to more granular analytics, including demographic insights and optimal engagement times, alongside existing metrics such as viewer retention and follower growth from specific videos. Furthermore, the app will enable users to search for popular topics within the Inspiration feed, assisting them in discovering trending reels and templates. The Edits app, which is available for free on both iOS and Android, has demonstrated impressive engagement metrics, with content produced through the app achieving a 10% higher save rate and a 2% increase in shares compared to other content. Despite not disclosing specific user numbers, Meta claims that over half of Instagram's reel viewers encounter Edits-created content daily. The AI assistant is currently being tested with select creators, while the desktop version of Edits is anticipated to launch soon, with other features becoming widely available immediately.
