Meta unveils ‘Conversation Focus’ and Spotify integration for AI smart glasses

Meta has rolled out a groundbreaking software update for its Ray-Ban and Oakley AI glasses, aimed at enhancing user experience in everyday situations. This update introduces innovative features that prioritize speech clarity in noisy environments and a unique music experience that integrates with Spotify. The highlight of this update, known as ‘Conversation Focus’, tackles a common issue faced by headset and earbud users: difficulty hearing conversations in bustling locations. Leveraging the glasses' built-in microphone array and advanced on-device AI, this technology establishes a directional 'audio zone'. It effectively identifies and amplifies the voice of the person directly in front of the wearer while minimizing disruptive background noise, such as chatter in a restaurant or the sounds of public transit. Users can customize the amplification level to better suit their environment, making it particularly beneficial in challenging acoustic settings like lively bars or during commutes. In a notable collaboration with Spotify, Meta is introducing what it describes as the first multimodal AI music experience. Users can now utilize the glasses' cameras to interact with their surroundings, prompting the AI to suggest music. By simply saying, “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view,” while focusing on an object or scene, users can generate personalized Spotify playlists tailored to their tastes. Currently, the Spotify feature is being launched in English across various countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and India. Meanwhile, the Conversation Focus function is initially available only to users in the United States and Canada who are part of Meta's Early Access Programme. Additionally, Meta is expanding its language support in India, now incorporating Telugu and Kannada alongside existing English and Hindi options, enabling more users to engage with the assistant in their native languages. A Meta spokesperson emphasized that this update reflects the company’s dedication to advancing 'sustainable education technology' and making AI accessible and practical through everyday devices. The update is being distributed to Early Access participants, with a wider public rollout anticipated by early 2026.
