Meta poaches Apple design exec Alan Dye

In a bold move to enhance its consumer technology offerings, Meta has successfully recruited Alan Dye, the former design executive who spearheaded Apple's user interface team for the past ten years. This shift, reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, marks a pivotal moment for Meta as it intensifies its focus on innovative products such as smart glasses and virtual reality headsets. Dye's role at Meta will center on elevating the artificial intelligence capabilities of these devices. He will be working closely with Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth, bringing his extensive expertise to drive the company's advancements in this competitive landscape. In the wake of Dye's departure, Apple has appointed Steve Lemay as his successor. Lemay has played a crucial role in shaping the design of major Apple interfaces since 1999, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Meta's strategy to attract talent from rival companies is evident, particularly as it aims to bolster its position in the AI sector. Earlier this summer, Meta also welcomed researchers from OpenAI, showcasing its commitment to enhancing its technological edge. Notably, it has been rumored that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally delivered homemade soup to an OpenAI employee during recruitment efforts, to which OpenAI’s chief research officer Mark Chen humorously responded by sending soup to promising recruits at Meta.
