Meta will grade employees on their AI impact starting in 2026

Beginning in 2026, Meta will link employee evaluations to their contributions in artificial intelligence, according to a memo from Janelle Gale, the company’s head of people. This initiative aims to establish 'AI-driven impact' as a fundamental expectation for all employees. In the upcoming year, while individual AI usage will not be part of the 2025 performance reviews, employees are encouraged to highlight their AI achievements in their self-assessments. A representative from Meta emphasized the company's commitment to integrating AI into daily operations, stating that this approach is a priority. This move is indicative of a larger trend among major corporations in the U.S. to foster an AI-centric workplace culture. Tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have similarly urged their teams to leverage AI capabilities, with leaders making it clear that utilizing AI is becoming essential. Earlier this year, Meta revamped its recruitment strategy, permitting candidates to use AI tools during coding assessments. The company also introduced an internal game called 'Level Up' to promote AI adoption among employees. Gale highlighted that the organization aims to reward those who can effectively integrate AI into their work processes. To assist in performance evaluations, Meta will launch an 'AI Performance Assistant' for the upcoming review cycle, starting on December 8. Employees will be able to leverage the internal AI tool, Metamate, along with Google's Gemini, to enhance their performance documentation. This shift represents a significant evolution in how Meta approaches employee feedback and assessments, focusing on the critical role of AI in achieving organizational goals.
