Meta removes controversial AI feature on Instagram after backlash

This feature, introduced just days ago along with several other AI innovations, has been deemed a misstep by the tech giant. The tool, known as Muse Image, was developed by Meta's dedicated AI division, Meta Superintelligence Labs. It allowed users to generate new images by tagging public Instagram accounts, but it did not notify those users when their images were utilized. This lack of notification sparked immediate criticism, leading TechCrunch to publish a guide on how to disable the feature. On Friday, Meta officially announced the decision to remove the feature, acknowledging the feedback it received from users. The company stated, "Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. We’ve heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it’s no longer available." The decision to retract the feature reflects broader concerns about the misuse of AI in social media, particularly regarding the generation of inappropriate content.
