Meta is undergoing a significant transformation within its metaverse division, as the company shifts key personnel to its artificial intelligence sector. In a recent internal communication, CTO Andrew Bosworth informed team members that Gabriel Aul, who was previously at the helm of Meta's virtual worlds, and Ryan Cairns, responsible for the company's virtual reality hardware, will now direct the metaverse strategy. Bosworth emphasized that the focus on metaverse development remains steadfast, asserting it is a top priority for the company. "We have demonstrated our vision to the industry and are witnessing increased competition as others attempt to catch up," he stated. "It is essential that we capitalize on our established advantage." Additionally, Vishal Shah, a significant player in Meta's metaverse initiatives over the last four years, announced his transition to Meta Superintelligence Labs. In his new role as vice president of AI Products within the Products and Applied Research unit, he will report directly to Nat Friedman, one of the leaders at MSL. While Meta chose not to comment further on these changes, the company confirmed the updates to Business Insider. The strategic realignment reflects Meta's commitment to integrating AI advancements into its broader vision for the metaverse.
