According to a spokesperson, the tech giant is focusing on establishing a robust framework for its superintelligence initiatives following a period of rapid hiring and annual budget assessments. Furthermore, Wall Street analysts have begun to scrutinize Meta's expenditures in relation to its competition in the AI landscape. Morgan Stanley analysts noted that the company’s increasing labor costs, particularly due to stock grants used to attract AI talent, could become a growing concern for investors. They highlighted that while stock-based compensation could potentially drive significant breakthroughs in AI, it also runs the risk of diluting shareholder value if not managed correctly. Despite these challenges, Meta's stock has seen a notable increase of approximately 28% this year. The company has made headlines for offering signing bonuses upwards of $100 million to secure top talent, prompting critical responses from industry competitors. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman referred to Meta's strategy as "crazy" during a podcast, questioning the sustainability of such high compensation without a focus on mission-driven work. Similarly, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei expressed his commitment to maintaining fair compensation practices, indicating that excessive salary offers could harm corporate culture.
