In an ambitious move to establish itself as an 'AI-first' organization, Meta is broadening employee access to artificial intelligence tools from competitors like Google and OpenAI. This initiative is part of a strategy to integrate AI into nearly every aspect of work at the social media powerhouse. Meta's Chief Information Officer, Atish Banerjea, emphasized the company's commitment to making AI central to its operations in a memo shared with staff. The plan involves utilizing Meta's own AI models, known as 'Llama,' while also incorporating solutions from other leading firms. In a recent update, it was revealed that all employees can now utilize Google's Gemini 3 Pro and OpenAI's ChatGPT-5, alongside an array of other AI resources designed to enhance productivity. A Meta spokesperson affirmed the company's ongoing efforts to embrace AI, stating that the integration of these technologies is a priority aimed at enhancing employees' daily workflows. Since June, Meta has opened the doors to various external AI models, including an internal development tool named Devmate, which leverages Anthropic's Claude, as reported previously. The initiative aligns with Meta's broader investment strategy, which has seen the company allocate billions towards developing consumer-facing AI models. Employees also have access to Metamate, an internal AI assistant built on Meta's own Llama framework. In a recent collaboration with the startup Midjourney, Meta made its AI image generator available to staff for creative tasks, further streamlining design and prototyping processes. In addition to adopting external tools, Meta transitioned its internal productivity systems to Google Workspace, encompassing services like Chat, Gmail, Docs, and Drive. This shift is aimed at unlocking AI-driven capabilities and seamlessly integrating with its expanding toolkit. On the engineering front, Meta has broadened access to advanced coding systems by incorporating Google's Gemini 3 Pro and exploring new functionalities with OpenAI's Codex CLI. Reality Labs executive Maher Saba conveyed to employees that the focus is on achieving results, such as boosting productivity and fostering innovation. To facilitate the adoption of AI, Meta has gamified the experience, launching an internal initiative named 'Level Up' that rewards employees for engaging with AI tools. Performance metrics will increasingly reflect AI-driven contributions, with leaders incentivizing those who can demonstrate a tangible impact through these technologies. As Meta navigates this transformative phase, it underscores the growing importance of AI in driving efficiency and innovation within the workplace.
