In a bold move to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has introduced a new initiative known as Meta Superintelligence Labs. This new division is set to be led by Alexandr Wang, the former CEO of Scale AI, following Meta's recent $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI to bolster its AI technology amidst intensifying competition. The Superintelligence Labs will also be co-directed by Nat Friedman, the ex-CEO of GitHub, who will be responsible for steering the company’s AI product development and applied research. Joining them is Daniel Gross, a co-founder and CEO of SSI, who will contribute his expertise to this ambitious project. According to reports from Reuters, Zuckerberg has successfully recruited a team of 11 talented professionals from the AI sector, including researchers from prominent organizations such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. In a memo shared internally, Zuckerberg expressed his vision for the Superintelligence Labs, emphasizing the goal of creating systems that could perform tasks as effectively, or even more efficiently, than humans. Zuckerberg stated, "As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight. I believe this will be the beginning of a new era for humanity, and I am fully committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way." The quest for top-tier AI talent has become increasingly competitive, with OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman revealing that Meta has been offering lucrative signing bonuses of up to $100 million to attract employees from rival companies. While Meta continues to recruit heavily from both OpenAI and Google, reports indicate that Anthropic, another significant player in the AI field, may not align as well with Meta's corporate culture.
