Meta is actively pursuing the acquisition of Play AI, a startup specializing in voice cloning technology, according to Bloomberg's sources. This move is part of Meta's strategy to enhance its artificial intelligence offerings aimed at consumers while also expanding its research talent. Play AI's innovative technology allows users to replicate various voices for applications such as customer service. The startup has successfully secured a total of $23.5 million in funding from notable investors, including 500 Startups, Kindred Ventures, Race Capital, 500 Global, and Soma Capital, as reported by Crunchbase. Currently, Meta provides creators on its platforms with tools to develop their own chatbots and has recently introduced video editing functionalities to its Meta AI chatbot. By integrating Play AI's voice technology, Meta could significantly enrich its creative suite with advanced audio capabilities. As of now, both Meta and Play AI have not responded to requests for further information.
