In a bold move to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities, Meta has reportedly recruited four more researchers from OpenAI. This follows an earlier report by TechCrunch that highlighted the hiring of prominent researcher Trapit Bansal. According to The Wall Street Journal, three additional OpenAI researchers have also joined Meta, bringing the total to seven new acquisitions in a short span of time. The latest recruits include Shengjia Zhao, Jiahui Yu, Shuchao Bi, and Hongyu Ren, as revealed by The Information. This hiring wave comes on the heels of the April launch of Meta's Llama 4 AI models, which did not meet the performance expectations set by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The models faced scrutiny after critics pointed out shortcomings in the version of Llama used for a significant benchmark. The competition between Meta and OpenAI has intensified, with OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman commenting that Meta's offers included astonishing signing bonuses, purportedly around $100 million. However, he noted that none of OpenAI's top talent have made the switch yet. In response, Meta's CTO Andrew Bosworth clarified that while senior leaders may have been offered lucrative deals, the specifics of these offers are more intricate than simple signing bonuses.
