Meta has officially acquired Moltbook, an innovative social media platform designed for artificial intelligence agents, as confirmed on Tuesday. This strategic move integrates Moltbook’s CEO Matt Schlict and COO Ben Parr into Meta's Superintelligence Labs, a division dedicated to advancing AI technologies that was established just last year. A representative from Meta expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "The Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses." They highlighted that the platform's unique approach to connecting agents through a continuous directory represents a significant advancement in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Initially developed from the OpenClaw project, which was previously known as Clawdbot and Moltbot, Moltbook gained popularity for its AI agents capable of performing various tasks on users’ operating systems. The platform features a design reminiscent of Reddit, emphasizing interactions solely among AI agents that autonomously join when a human provides a sign-up link. According to Axios, the acquisition deal is anticipated to finalize by mid-March, with Schlict and Parr expected to commence their roles at Superintelligence Labs on March 16. Additionally, it's worth noting that OpenClaw’s founder, Peter Steinberger, was recently recruited by OpenAI's Sam Altman, further highlighting the competitive nature of the AI industry.
