Meta just scooped up Moltbook, the viral social network for AI agents

In a strategic move to enhance its AI capabilities, Meta has officially acquired Moltbook, a platform designed for AI agents that resembles a Reddit-style forum. This acquisition was confirmed on Tuesday, following initial reports by Axios. The founders of Moltbook, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, will now be part of Meta's Superintelligence Labs. A spokesperson for Meta expressed optimism about the integration, stating, "The Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses. Their innovative approach to connecting agents through a continuous directory is a significant advancement in this fast-evolving field. We eagerly anticipate collaborating to create groundbreaking, secure experiences for users." Alexandr Wang, who leads Meta's AI lab, has been pivotal in restructuring the company's AI initiatives, especially after a notable $14 billion investment in Scale AI aimed at attracting top talent amid fierce competition in the AI sector. Moltbook aims to complement OpenClaw, a widely embraced open-source AI agent platform among tech communities. Mark Zuckerberg's efforts to recruit OpenClaw's creator, Peter Steinberger, did not bear fruit, as Steinberger opted to join OpenAI instead. However, he has assured users that OpenClaw will continue to operate independently. The financial details surrounding Meta's acquisition of Moltbook have not been disclosed, but this development marks a significant step in Meta's ongoing commitment to advancing AI technologies.
