Threads posts can now be shared directly to your Instagram Story without leaving the app

In a bid to expand its user base beyond 400 million monthly users, Meta has launched an exciting new feature for its Threads app. This innovation allows users to share their Threads posts directly to Instagram Stories without leaving the Threads environment. By enabling this functionality, Meta aims to leverage Instagram's extensive user network to attract even more users to Threads, its alternative to Twitter. Announced on Thursday, the new feature offers a preview of how a Threads post will appear on an Instagram Story, enhancing the user experience. Previously, users could share Threads posts to their Instagram Stories, but this new approach simplifies the process significantly. Additionally, Threads already provided options for sharing posts to users' Instagram Feeds or through direct messages. Launched in July 2023, Threads has quickly gained popularity, thanks in part to its integration with Instagram. When signing up, users authenticated using their Instagram credentials, which allowed Threads to automatically fill in their profile details, including username, bio, and follower count. This seamless integration facilitated instant connections, as users could easily follow accounts they already followed on Instagram. In the months following its debut, Meta has strategically utilized its larger platforms to further promote Threads. This includes showcasing popular Threads posts on Facebook and incorporating a carousel of Threads content on Instagram. Users have also been encouraged to cross-post content from Instagram and Facebook, contributing to Threads' rising popularity. Recent data from Similarweb indicates that Threads is now experiencing higher daily usage than Elon Musk's X on mobile devices, although X continues to lead on desktop. Threads has seen a remarkable growth trajectory, with monthly active users surging from 200 million in August 2024 to 400 million by August 2025. Furthermore, the platform recently celebrated reaching 150 million daily active users, marking a significant milestone in its rapid ascent.
