Meta is cutting several hundred jobs

Meta is initiating a significant reduction in its workforce, impacting several hundred employees across various departments, including sales, recruitment, and the Reality Labs division. Reports from The Information and Bloomberg highlight that this move will affect staff in both the United States and several international markets. While some employees may be offered alternate positions or opportunities to relocate within the company, the layoffs could involve fewer than 1,000 individuals. A spokesperson for Meta explained in a communication to TechCrunch that the company frequently undergoes restructuring to better align its teams with its operational goals. They emphasized that efforts are being made to find new roles for those whose jobs are affected. These layoffs come at a time when Meta is heavily investing in artificial intelligence, anticipating record capital expenditures this year, estimated between $115 billion and $135 billion. This marks the second round of layoffs for Meta in 2026, following a January decision to cut 10% of the Reality Labs division's workforce, which affected approximately 1,000 employees out of a total of around 15,000 in that division. At the end of 2025, Meta's total employment stood at nearly 79,000.
