Meta and Reliance Industries have officially unveiled a groundbreaking partnership aimed at constructing an AI-powered data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This initiative underscores Meta's enduring commitment to India, a nation that is rapidly emerging as a significant player in the global tech landscape. The new facility will be strategically positioned in Jamnagar, where Reliance is developing one of the world's largest data center campuses, equipped with essential energy resources to support advanced AI infrastructure. This collaboration will ensure that Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, are backed by robust computing power, critical for delivering AI services and fulfilling future ambitions around personal superintelligence. In this partnership, Reliance will leverage its construction expertise to build the data center, while Meta will utilize its capacity through leasing rather than direct ownership. The initial setup will boast a capacity of 168 megawatts (MW) to support servers and AI workloads, with plans for future expansions already on the horizon. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's Founder and CEO, expressed pride in this collaboration, highlighting that the facility will play a crucial role in scaling Meta's AI infrastructure globally and reinforcing its long-standing investment in the Indian economy. Additionally, the data center is designed to be environmentally friendly, operating on renewable energy and incorporating desalinated seawater to minimize the use of freshwater resources. Meta has committed to covering all costs associated with electricity and water, viewing this investment as vital for expanding its AI and data center capabilities worldwide. This partnership not only represents a significant advancement in India's digital infrastructure but also strengthens the existing collaboration between Meta and Reliance across various sectors, including connectivity and AI innovation. Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, emphasized that this venture symbolizes India’s readiness to lead in the global AI revolution.
