Meta announced on Wednesday the introduction of new video editing capabilities within its Meta AI platform, empowering users to modify short videos through a range of preset AI prompts. This strategic move positions Meta in direct competition with firms like Google, which have progressively enhanced their generative AI video offerings, as well as with other AI-driven editing solutions such as Captions. The newly launched editing tools will be available across the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and the company's Edits platform, designed to rival CapCut, specifically within the U.S. market. Although Meta claims these features are inspired by its Movie Gen AI models, it remains uncertain whether these models contribute directly to the functionality of the editing tools. Currently, users can choose from 50 different presets to transform a 10-second video. Meta has emphasized that feedback from content creators was instrumental in developing these presets to ensure they are user-friendly for the Edits app. These presets allow users to apply various artistic styles to their videos, such as a "vintage comic book" aesthetic, adjust lighting to create a rainy ambiance, or even change the attire of subjects to something like a futuristic space cadet outfit. Edited videos can be seamlessly shared on Facebook and Instagram directly from both the Edits and Meta AI applications. Looking ahead, Meta intends to roll out even more customization options later this year. The company stated in a blog post, "We built this to enable everyone to explore their creativity and produce engaging videos to share with friends, family, and followers." Whether it’s about reimagining cherished family moments or discovering fresh methods to captivate an audience, Meta believes its video editing tools can facilitate a more dynamic creative experience. With the addition of these video editing capabilities, Meta aims to encourage more creators to utilize its tools instead of relying on third-party applications, further solidifying its position in the creative technology landscape.
