Mercedes-AMG is stepping into the future of electric performance with a bold vision for its next-generation high-performance EVs. Unlike early electric models that primarily dazzled with explosive straight-line speed, the brand aims to deliver a more engaging and multifaceted driving experience. Built on the innovative AMG.EA platform, at least two new vehicles are in the pipeline. Following the unveiling of the concept GT XX and the AMG.EA framework in Affalterbach, I had the opportunity to take a ride in a prototype of this exciting new model. While it may resemble the next iteration of the AMG GT four-door, Mercedes remains tight-lipped about specific details, only confirming the model's underpinnings. The primary focus of this ride-along was not merely to showcase the vehicle's raw power but to immerse in its overall feel and driving dynamics. Taking cues from the Ioniq 5 N, Mercedes-AMG has integrated simulated gear shifts and the accompanying sound effects into the driving experience, particularly in the Sport+ mode. As we departed the Mercedes-AMG facility and ventured onto scenic back roads, the chief engineer took the wheel, and the transformation was palpable. With a simple twist of the steering wheel dial to Sport+, the car came alive, showcasing the thrilling potential of this future EV. With these advancements, Mercedes-AMG is positioning itself to redefine what high-performance electric vehicles can be, going beyond mere acceleration to create a captivating driving experience that enthusiasts will cherish.
