UIDAI introduces ‘Udai’, a new mascot to help navigate Aadhaar services

In a significant move to enhance public comprehension of Aadhaar services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced its new mascot, "Udai." This initiative aims to break down the complexities surrounding Aadhaar, including biometric updates, authentication processes, and security features, into more relatable and understandable terms for citizens. Unveiled by UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra during a ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, Udai is designed to serve as a friendly communication companion. The UIDAI emphasizes that this mascot will help demystify Aadhaar-related information, making it accessible to everyone. To foster public involvement, UIDAI initiated national design and name competitions on the MyGov platform, encouraging citizens to contribute their ideas. The response was impressive, with 875 entries submitted from various backgrounds, including students, professionals, and designers. Following a meticulous review process, the Udai platform was developed, incorporating feedback from the public while ensuring official oversight. Aadhaar has evolved beyond mere identity verification, becoming a cornerstone of India's digital public infrastructure (DPI). It now plays a vital role in facilitating financial inclusion, governance, and secure digital transactions. With the introduction of Udai, UIDAI aims to enhance public outreach efforts, utilizing visual storytelling to clarify how Aadhaar operates and the importance of its responsible use. This mascot is poised to be a pivotal element in future initiatives focused on promoting Digital India and educating citizens about digital identity.
