This week, the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo serves as the backdrop for Mazda's unveiling of its latest concepts, which reflect the company's vision of 'the joy of driving fuels a sustainable tomorrow.' One standout model is the Vision X-Coupe, showcasing the latest iteration of Mazda's KODO design philosophy, first introduced at the Tokyo show a decade ago. The Vision X-Coupe features a sleek, elongated silhouette reminiscent of Mazda's current lineup, including models like the Mazda 3 hatchback and the CX-30 crossover. However, the excitement goes beyond aesthetics as Mazda explores groundbreaking sustainability initiatives. At the heart of the Vision X-Coupe is a robust powertrain that delivers an impressive 503 horsepower (375 kW) through a plug-in hybrid system, incorporating a two-rotor turbocharged rotary engine. This innovative vehicle is designed for a total range of 500 miles (800 km), with the capability to travel 100 miles (160 km) solely on electric power. Mazda's commitment to environmental responsibility is evident, as company president and CEO Masahiro Moro emphasized that the Vision X-Coupe's operation won't come with guilt. "After years of studying fuels and CO2 emissions, Mazda envisions a future where increased driving distance contributes to CO2 reduction," Moro stated. He highlighted two key technologies driving this vision: carbon-neutral refined fuel sourced from microalgae and a system to capture CO2 emissions directly from the vehicle.
