How to disable iOS 26’s new Visited Places feature in Apple Maps

With the rollout of iOS 26, Apple has introduced a new feature in its Maps application called Visited Places. This functionality is designed to automatically track and log the locations that users visit, making it easier to revisit favorite spots or share recommendations with friends. However, it has raised significant concerns regarding user privacy. The Visited Places feature is activated by default when users first launch the app. It records your location history and organizes places into categories such as restaurants, shops, and transport hubs. Apple assures users that all data is encrypted end-to-end, meaning it cannot be accessed by the company. Additionally, this information syncs securely across devices linked to the same Apple ID. Users can easily search their location history by name, date, or category. They can also add personal notes to specific places and group locations into custom guides. For those who prefer not to have a digital record of their movements, there's a straightforward method to disable the Visited Places feature through the Settings app. To turn off this feature, iPhone users should navigate to Settings, select Apps, then Maps, and toggle off the option for Visited Places. Alternatively, it can be found under Privacy and Security, followed by Location Services, and then Maps. For individuals looking to clear their existing location history, Apple has provided a history management tool directly within the Maps app. Users can go to Places, select Visited Places, and choose how long they want to retain visit data—options include three months, one year, or indefinitely. They can also opt to delete their entire history by tapping Clear History followed by Clear All. Individual location entries can be removed as well. The iOS 26 update is compatible with iPhone 11 and newer models, including the second-generation iPhone SE and the latest iPhone 17 series, along with the iPhone Air.
